First Full Week!

We are building our stamina as we complete the first full week of school.  Today is the 3rd Friday of the School Year which is an essential day for school districts as our enrollment counts are determined today.  This is how funding for the school year is allocated.  School attendance is essential!  If you student was absent today please make every effort to assure they are back to school as soon as they are able.

Next Wednesday is the first annual Deer Creek/Willow Glen PTO meeting starting at 6:00 pm here at Deer Creek.  Food will be served.  Come out to hear about the great things are Parent Teacher Organization does for kids in Saint Francis!

Our first Parent Advisory Council will be held on September 29th at 5:30 in the Deer Creek Library. This is a great opportunity to ask any questions parents might have and offer and suggestions.  Hope to see you there!

  • FALL RECREATION SIGN UP IS TOMORROW, SEPTEMBER 12th from 9 am to 12 pm in the COMMUNITY EDUCATION ROOM of the DEER CREEK GYM/RECREATION BUILDING
  • ANNUAL SCHOOL BOARD MEETING MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 14th at 6:30 PM in the DEER CREEK LIBRARY
  • DC/WG PTO MEETING SEPTEMBER 23rd at 6:00 at Deer Creek
REMINDERS:
  • Early Release for students is every Wednesday.  Dismissal time for Deer Creek is 2:00 pm
  • If you are interested or in need of supervised activities for your students during early release time please contact the Recreation Department at 482-8484 or 482-8486 to get information on the BEYOND THE BELL program.
  • YMCA After School does not begin at 2:00 pm on Early Release Days.  The Y care program begins at regular after school hours.
  • School begins at 7:50 at DC.  Students arriving after 7:50 must check in in the main office so we are sure that they safely arrived at school.
BREAKFAST PROGRAM
We serve breakfast in the cafeteria at DC every morning beginning at 7:45 am.  HOT breakfast is served on Tuesdays and Thursdays.  Come for great food, stay for a great education!!

Off to a Great Start!

WELCOME BACK!!

The new year if off to a great start.  We began the year with a kickoff assembly in the gym. Congratulations to the 5th grade for earning the first STRONG CHARACTER award by providing the warmest welcome to their classmates!

School Starts at  7:50 AM.  Please make every effort to help your student get the most of their educational day!  Our breakfast program begins serving in the cafeteria at 7:45 am.

SHUTTLE BUS
Ridership of our shuttle bus is no longer available before school. After school ridership requires a small fee.  If you wish to utilize the shuttle bus please contact our District Recreation Secretary, Peggy Pfeffer at 482-8484.

EARLY RELEASE
Each Wednesday, beginning September 9th our district will have Early Release for students to provide professional development opportunities for staff members.  At Deer Creek, Early Release time is 2 pm.  After student dismissal staff will be working on district initiatives that can be reviewed at:

BEYOND THE BELL
If you are interested in supervised activities for your student during early release days please contact our Recreation Department at 482-8484 or 482-8486 to sign up for BEYOND THE BELL.

YMCA BEFORE AND AFTER SCHOOL CARE
The YMCA provides Before and After School Care for a fee to users.  Contact Recreation Supervisor John Kloppenberg for details at 482-8486.

Summer Updates

It's hard to believe that Summer School Session 1 is complete and we are a week into Session 2.  Kids are having a great time while they learn!  Our Iron Chefs and Books and Cooks classes are creating gourmet meals while our Hands on Science students are making masterful experiments!  Our new Gaga Ball Pit is a hit along with our Fun and Games classes and Recreation offerings.  Perhaps most importantly (but maybe not as much fun) our students our continuing to READ and hone their MATH skills!

Keep your eyes open for registration materials in the mail.  DC and Willow Glen registration is on August 10th in the DC gym building!  Pictures will be taken at registration again this year so be ready for your prettiest poses and handsomest photos!

Summer is Here!

Thanks to all of our staff, students, families, and friends for a wonderful and memorable promotion ceremony for our 8th graders!  Best of luck to all in your bright futures!

Summer School/Summer Cool began yesterday.  Wow!  So many kids and so many great activities! Remember, our community now has a free lunch for kids program where students can obtain a free hot lunch at Deer Creek from 11:45 am until 12:45 pm.

Blog posts will be less frequent during the summer months but stay tuned - all important news will be found here!

JUNE 5, 2015

Another outstanding band and choir concert last night at DC!  Thanks to Mrs. Lewis for her tireless efforts and thanks to all the students, staff, and families for another outstanding cultural event.

As the year winds down, please remember that Summer School/Summer Cool starts on Monday, June 15th.  It's a great opportunity for learning and fun!

IMPORTANT NEWS FOR NEXT YEAR

The AM Shuttle Bus will not run next year.  The PM Shuttle Bus will continue to run with a fee attached for ridership.  Please see the informational letter on the DC web page at http://www.stfrancisschools.org/schools/deercreek/  on the top right hand side.

There is also information on next year's early release calendar.  The YMCA before and after school programming currently offered at Willow Glen will extend to Deer Creek next year.  Information will be forthcoming prior to registration which is on August 10th in the DC gym.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR 2015-2016

·         Early Release EVERY WEDNESDAY - The 2015-2016 calendar will include early release at all schools each and every Wednesday.
·         All students will be released one (1) hour early each Wednesday beginning September 9th .
·         There are also two half-days for parent teacher conferences – these days vary by school.
·         The 2015-2016 school calendar will be posted in the near future.
·          Beyond the Bell - The District Recreation Department will be providing supervised day care for students at Willow Glen and Deer Creek until the normal release time for those parents in need of child supervision on early release Wednesdays. This program will bridge to the YMCA after-school care at Willow Glen and the new YMCA afterschool care at Deer Creek. A sign-up for “Beyond the Bell” will occur during school registration in August 2015. The cost of “Beyond the Bell” for Session One (September 9th - January 20th) will be $48/student. The cost of “Beyond the Bell” Session Two (January 27th - June 8th) will be $54/student. Sign-up and payment will be made at school registration for Session One. Sign-up and payment will be made at school registration for Session Two by December 22. “Beyond the Bell” cannot be pro-rated, as we need to staff the child supervision program appropriately.
·         YMCA Programming at Deer Creek - The YMCA has expanded before and after school day care to Deer Creek Intermediate School. For program information, call 414-374-9437 or wsmsf@ymcamke.org. For billing and registration information, call 414-274-0759, or schoolage@ymcamke.org.
·         Willow Glen and Deer Creek Shuttle Service - There will no longer be a morning shuttle service due to low ridership/interest, as well as, cost. The after school shuttle service is available as pay for use only. Students can use the shuttle service once payment is made to the District. Ridership for September 2nd through January 21st will cost $25/student or $50/family. Ridership for January 25th through June 9th will cost $25/student or $50/family. Payment must be made before ridership occurs and cannot be pro-rated per day and is non-transferable to other riders. Sign-up and payment will be made at registration through the Recreation Department. If you have any questions please contact Mr. John Kloppenburg at 482-8486.
