TESTING, TESTING

We have completed the BADGER EXAM testing at DC less some student make ups do to absence. The kids did a great job on a tough test and the staff is very proud of them.  With only a short break, we will begin MAP testing next week.  It has been a year heavy with assessments and the kids have shown great grit and determination to always do their best.

UPDATES

The month of April has come and nearly gone already!  Students returned from Spring Break ready to learn!

Last Friday the entire school participated in our Staff/Student Basketball game.  Staff members had their own cheering sections as students made signs and cheered their teachers and classmates on!  At halftime we had PBIS activities including a drawing for Milwaukee Bucks ball caps and an autographed souvenir Bucks basketball.  Charger Champions and Deer Creek Dollar winners were given the opportunity to choose their favorite teacher and douse them with Silly String!  It was a great way to end a week and have some fun before beginning our Badger Exam testing.

Last Friday also saw our 7th grade Social Studies Student present their World's Fair in the library. All grade levels had the opportunity to take a trip "around the World" as 7th graders gave interactive presentations on the countries they researched.

Thank you to our PTO for the Daddy/Daughter Dance last Friday in the DC gym.  Many princesses came out with their dads for a formal dance with studio photos to preserve the memory.

The Badger Exam has proven rigorous and challenging for our students.  We are proud of the determination and grit our kids are showing.  Week one of testing concludes this week.  The second and final week of testing extends through next Friday.  Any students who need make-up testing will finish up before the close of the testing window.

The Badger Exam

Upon return from Spring Break DC students will be participating in the Badger Exam 3-8.  The Badger Exam is an online assessment that serves the purpose previously served by the WKCE exam which was a paper and pencil test.

This is the first year of implementation for the Badger Exam and there have been many changes regarding the test since the planning stages began.  DC staff have been preparing for months for implementation and we will continue to roll with the changes.

Please take a look at the take home materials next week Wednesday.  There will be valuable information in regard to the Badger Exam for students and parents including scheduling information. For the 2 weeks of test administration our daily schedule will be significantly different that our regular instructional day.  There will be adjustments to lunch periods and specials, and students will be asked to observe silent transitions as both of our computer labs and library will be used for testing. All 5 of our grade levels are tested for the Badger Exam so the challenge of maximizing testing time and testing resources makes it necessary to be flexible in our scheduling.

The first day of Spring!  Hopefully, the coldest days are behind us!  Thanks to all of our parents, guardians, and family members who joined us for parent teacher conferences last night. Communication between home and school is supremely important for student success!

Congratulations to our DC Science and Robotic Students who were honored by our Mayor Tuesday night with a proclamation of DC Inspiration Day.  The kids were recognized for their efforts in utilizing our 3D printer technology to develop prosthetic hands for children in need.

DC Science Night has been rescheduled for May 28th.  Continue to look for information in take homes, on the web page, and on this blog.

The 4th quarter is right around the corner.  We are in the home stretch.  Here's looking forward to warm weather and a strong finish to the 2014-2015 school year!
