Here Comes October.....

OCTOBER EVENTS FOR YOUR CALENDAR!

It's officially fall and the school year is in full swing;  as is assessment season.  Our students are taking part in the MAP (Measures of Annual Progress) test which assesses their grade level skills in Math and Reading as well as the Math Predictor and Writing Prompts.   Our 4th and 5th graders are taking part in the Fountas and Pinnell leveled reader assessments, and teachers are administering formative assessments in their classrooms.  This is A LOT of assessing - it is essential for our teachers to best know the students as learners and have the opportunity to personalize their learning as much as possible.

COMING UP
As the calendar dates note above there are some important dates coming up in October.  Our Fall Parent/Teacher Conferences will take place on the 14th and 20th.  Deer Creek Fun Night, in partnership with the Recreation Department, with offer a night for families to come out and participate in activities in gym building including games, a bounce house, and snacks.  The cost is $1.00 per person.  Students MUST be accompanied by a parent to attend.  There is no school on October 30th.

REMINDERS
School starts at 7:50 am here at DC.  Students who are late to school must check-in at the main office.  Multiple tardies are equivalent to unexcused absence.  Please make every effort to have your student to school on time.
We offer our breakfast program in the cafeteria beginning at 7:45 am.  Tuesdays and Thursdays we have hot breakfast offerings.

The school nurse is available from 1:30 to 2:30 Monday through Thursday.  Nursing services outside of these hours are for emergency situations only.

First Full Week!

We are building our stamina as we complete the first full week of school.  Today is the 3rd Friday of the School Year which is an essential day for school districts as our enrollment counts are determined today.  This is how funding for the school year is allocated.  School attendance is essential!  If you student was absent today please make every effort to assure they are back to school as soon as they are able.

Next Wednesday is the first annual Deer Creek/Willow Glen PTO meeting starting at 6:00 pm here at Deer Creek.  Food will be served.  Come out to hear about the great things are Parent Teacher Organization does for kids in Saint Francis!

Our first Parent Advisory Council will be held on September 29th at 5:30 in the Deer Creek Library. This is a great opportunity to ask any questions parents might have and offer and suggestions.  Hope to see you there!

  • DC/WG PTO MEETING SEPTEMBER 23rd at 6:00 at Deer Creek
REMINDERS:
  • Early Release for students is every Wednesday.  Dismissal time for Deer Creek is 2:00 pm
  • If you are interested or in need of supervised activities for your students during early release time please contact the Recreation Department at 482-8484 or 482-8486 to get information on the BEYOND THE BELL program.
  • YMCA After School does not begin at 2:00 pm on Early Release Days.  The Y care program begins at regular after school hours.
  • School begins at 7:50 at DC.  Students arriving after 7:50 must check in in the main office so we are sure that they safely arrived at school.
BREAKFAST PROGRAM
We serve breakfast in the cafeteria at DC every morning beginning at 7:45 am.  HOT breakfast is served on Tuesdays and Thursdays.  Come for great food, stay for a great education!!

Off to a Great Start!

WELCOME BACK!!

The new year if off to a great start.  We began the year with a kickoff assembly in the gym. Congratulations to the 5th grade for earning the first STRONG CHARACTER award by providing the warmest welcome to their classmates!

School Starts at  7:50 AM.  Please make every effort to help your student get the most of their educational day!  Our breakfast program begins serving in the cafeteria at 7:45 am.

SHUTTLE BUS
Ridership of our shuttle bus is no longer available before school. After school ridership requires a small fee.  If you wish to utilize the shuttle bus please contact our District Recreation Secretary, Peggy Pfeffer at 482-8484.

EARLY RELEASE
Each Wednesday, beginning September 9th our district will have Early Release for students to provide professional development opportunities for staff members.  At Deer Creek, Early Release time is 2 pm.  After student dismissal staff will be working on district initiatives that can be reviewed at:

BEYOND THE BELL
If you are interested in supervised activities for your student during early release days please contact our Recreation Department at 482-8484 or 482-8486 to sign up for BEYOND THE BELL.

YMCA BEFORE AND AFTER SCHOOL CARE
The YMCA provides Before and After School Care for a fee to users.  Contact Recreation Supervisor John Kloppenberg for details at 482-8486.
